No one has to remind Seton Hall about the lofty expectations surrounding this team. Since the start of the season, all the Pirates have done is go about their business of winning ballgames and taking names.
The Big East conference schedule is four games away for Seton Hall, but they look like they’re ready to start now.
If there’s any indication the Pirates are ready to roll, all one should do is take a hard look at their current win streak. The Pirates made it four in a row with a convincing 90-67 win over VCU, Saturday at Prudential Center in Newark.
Senior guard Desi Rodriguez scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the win over the Rams. Seton Hall’s five starters all scored in double figures. Senior forward Angel Delgado picked up his 56th career double-double, with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Ranking Seton Hall
Seton Hall will move up in the rankings after their strong week. They previously knocked off top 25-ranked Louisville on the road.
When it comes to building a strong resume for the NCAA tournament, the KenPom rankings are like the bible. Seton Hall now has wins over Indiana (No.82), Rhode Island (No. 48), Vanderbilt (No 69), Texas Tech (No. 18), Louisville (No. 26), and VCU (No.87).
“We don’t care about ranking,” Delgado said after the game. “We care about where we finish.”
The Pirates are treating their non-conference schedule like it’s their own little playground. This doesn’t mean they should take what’s ahead for granted, there’s games against Saint Peters, at Rutgers, Wagner, and Manhattan. But head coach Kevin Willard has this team locked-in and on the same page.
“It’s been a lot for us to keep our momentum going,” Willard said in the postgame press conference. “And I’m really pleased with where we are. The schedule has tested us, and each game, emotionally, we’re there.”
